John Prime PhD – Principal Consultant
An enthusiastic and committed bioinformatician/Data scientist with over 10 years data analysis experience. John has had a successful career encompassing real achievements across biotech/pharma, academic and public sectors. John has developed a mastery of detail and yet can operate strategically as well. Regarded as an insight generator; developer and communicator of ideas and strategy. Career highlights include leading delivery of a comprehensive syngeneic mouse tumour model ‘omic characterisation, and working on patient selection biomarkers for Lynparza (olaparib).
Prior to establishing OncoBioinformatics Consulting John lead Oncology Research Bioinformatics at MedImmune, the biologics arm of AstraZeneca. He provided (along with colleagues) applied bioinformatics support to 80+ Oncology Scientists located at the Cambridge, UK and Gaithersburg, USA sites. Research activities focussed on supporting early stage to preclinical antibody drug conjugate (ADC) and Immuno-Oncology drug development projects; concentrating on the ‘omic characterisation of tumour model systems, including syngeneic mice, along with the analysis of patient data to deliver predictive signatures, markers and disease line of sight. John also chaired and lead a cross functional OncoBiomics working group tasked with developing and implementing the bioinformatics strategy for Oncology Research.
Before joining MedImmune in 2010 John was head of Biomics at KuDOS pharmaceuticals (which became the AZ Oncology DNA damage repair (DDR) inhibitor group). He provided support on target selection, network analysis of the DDR pathways and headed a team of 3 delivering key biomarker results through proteomics approaches to support DNA repair inhibitor drug projects including Lynparza (olaparib; approved for use in patients with germline BRCA mutated (gBRCAm) advanced ovarian cancer).
John studied for his PhD in Liver cancer genetics in Prof. J O’D McGee’s lab – Nuffield Department of Pathology and Bacteriology, University of Oxford.
